BAIA has been elected to the EC Informal Group on Drones

On October 7, the Bulgarian Aviation Industry Association (BAIA) was selected to be one of Bulgaria’s representatives in the Informal Drones Expert Group of the EU Commission. The organization will be represented by the founder of Unmanned Systems Bulgaria – Stefan Hristozov, who in recent years has been directly involved in settling regulations related to the use of UAVs in the country.

The mission of the Informal Drones Expert Group is as follows:

  • To assist the EC with the preparation of relevant legislative documents;
  • To assist the Commission in implementing actions to accelerate and adopt the integration of UAVs into the aviation system;
  • To assist the Commission in providing a safe environment for UAV operations;
  • To assist the Commission in building a suitable infrastructure for UAVs and in particular for drones flying at low altitude, including urban areas;
  • To support the development of a viable market for UAV services;
  • To assist the Commission in developing rules on drones;
  • To summarize best practices when working with drones.

The participants of the Informal Drones Expert Group will meet three or four times a year. Recall that the first such meeting took place on 11 July 2017. Now the first meeting of the current Informal Drones Expert Group is scheduled for November 8.
