1110 years since the establishment of the Military Academy “G. S. Rakovski” – a member of the Bulgarian Aviation Industry Association, were celebrated today , 14 April. The Military Academy is the main educational institution in our country in the field of security and defence, civil-military relations, military art and interoperability with NATO allied armies.

“For 110 years the Military Academy has been successfully fulfilling its mission – to train highly qualified personnel for the Armed Forces of the Republic of Bulgaria and leaders in society.” This is what Deputy Minister of Defence Alexander Petkov said in his address at the solemn celebration of the anniversary. “The Academy has successfully adapted to the modern challenges in security and defence and meets the current needs of the Bulgarian Army and state. It has successfully realised one of the main objectives of the Ministry of Defence’s policy on military education: to be closely linked to contemporary realities, practices and needs,” Deputy Minister Petkov further said.

“Today we celebrate the 110th anniversary of the country’s oldest military school. The decision to establish the Academy was taken at a complex time of extraordinarily important socio-economic and military-political changes in Bulgaria, the Balkans and the world, of impending and expected large-scale military conflicts in the region and in Europe.” This is what Deputy Chief of Defence Lieutenant General Dimitar Iliev told the participants in the solemn celebration of the holiday.
“We appreciate the efforts of the personnel to create an adequate theoretical interpretation of the security challenges and their active work on the development of new educational programs in the professional field of “Military Affairs”, which are to be introduced from the academic year 2022 – 2023,” concluded Lieutenant General Iliev. He stressed the importance of keeping the theory up to date with practice, in full compliance with the Union standards, in line with the concepts adopted in the course of the Strategic Defence Review, and with NATO and EU strategic documents.
“The role of the Academy in the process of mastering standards and procedures for participation in NATO headquarters and international missions and operations is leading,” Major General Todor Dochev, Head of the Military Academy, said in his speech. He congratulated the academy’s faculty and staff on the anniversary and noted that the high quality of education at the higher education institution is guaranteed thanks to its staff and faculty.
Wreaths and flowers were laid in front of the monument of the patron of the Military Academy – Georgi Rakovski. Awards were presented on behalf of the Minister of Defence and the Chief of Defence.
On behalf of the Bulgarian Aviation Industry Association, we congratulate everyone associated with the Academy. We would like to thank you for the opportunity to build this great partnership between one of the most prosperous educational institutions in the country and our organization. This is the right way to go in order to fill existing “gaps” of young aviation specialists, especially in the “high levels” of some departments. .
