On October 15, 2022, military pilot Nikolai Kalaydzhiev improved the Guinness World Record for the most takeoffs and landings by a supersonic aircraft in 1 hour. The record was 36 takeoffs and landings, and Niko made 40. Thus the Bulgarian aviator once again glorified our country, after last year also improved the FIA record with an ultralight aircraft.
“We have managed to improve a second world record, officially Bulgaria now has a GUINNESS world record in aviation and now the Guinness Book of World Records will also include Bulgaria. The fruit of teamwork, the many hours of work, effort and deprivation of our sponsors and people were the reason to improve and a second world record “the most takeoffs and landings in one hour with the execution of a flight on the circle, set 1000 ft relative to the terrain, and landing before or in an area of 20 meters on the runway, having to pass with the three tires through the two lines of the zone with ultralight aircraft. The record I had to better was 36. Don’t perform such runs unless it is on purpose”, Kalaydzhiev wrote on his Facebook wall.
“Niko is an excellent motivator for young and old alike and gives them an unforgettable and adrenaline-filled example of how to pursue their dreams. During the one-hour flight, he demonstrated a combination of technical knowledge, skills, great dedication, total concentration, ambition, cool-headedness and more.
It was great to be part of your team, Niko! Thanks for the opportunity! Wishing you many new records! Keep being such a great example and motivator for many and for a long time!”, wrote his sponsors Regional Innovation Center Ambitious Gabrovo.
BAIA supported Nikolay Kalaydzhiev all the time. After improving the record Todor Ivandjikov said:
“Nikolay Kalaydzhiev is an example for all of us who strive to develop aviation on a global level. As the Chairman of BAIA, I have always strived to guide the young on the path of aviation. There is no better motivation than the one Niko gave to future pilots – follow his path.”
