In 2016 a small team in Sofia set out to make flight data monitoring something an operator could rely on every day, not only at audit time. Ten years on, AeroSight has supported flight data monitoring programmes for 100+ operators across 40+ aircraft types. It processes 40,000 flights a month, and more than 1.5 million since 2016. On 5 October the company released AeroSight FDM v2, a rebuild of the platform around what those ten years taught.

Flight data monitoring (FDM) is the routine, non-punitive use of the data recorded on every flight to find risk before it turns into an incident. In Europe it is required for commercial operators of aeroplanes above 27 tonnes under ORO.AOC.130, and many smaller operators run a programme voluntarily.

AeroSight FDM v2 is built around one idea: the programme should ask for a person’s time only when their judgement is needed, and keep a record of what they decided.

• – Every flight the fleet flies. ADS-B flight history sits beside the recorder data, so a flight that was flown but never uploaded is flagged rather than missed, and Live Fleet Monitoring puts the fleet on a near-live map.
• – All in one platform. METAR weather, AIRAC procedures and, where a crew planning system is connected, the crew roster are linked to every flight and every event.
• – Detection tuned by the operator. The operator changes its own Event Definition Sheet (EDS); every change is signed off by a second person before it takes effect, and every revision is kept.
• – Programme-health KPIs aligned with the EASA EOFDM guidance, reports the operator builds itself, and an audit trail of every governance action.
• – Fuel Efficiency, a new module, alongside engine condition monitoring and Pilot Performance, rebuilt so each operator can tailor them.

The timing matters for European operators. EASA’s revised acceptable means of compliance for FDM programmes, ED Decision 2025/020/R, applies from 1 January 2028 and sets out in more detail what a programme is expected to do. Operators have until the end of 2027 to adapt.

“Ten years ago we started AeroSight so that flight data monitoring would work for the operator, not the other way round,” said Milko Lorinkov, CEO of AeroSight. “v2 is what ten years of running programmes taught us: the only work you should have to do is the work that needs a person.”

During the Forum on Air Transport Connectivity and Tourism in Burgas, Todor Ivandjikov, President of the Bulgarian Aviation Industry Association, announced that the prototype of the first Bulgarian flying car, developed by BAIA members, is expected to be ready for testing in October.
The first tests are planned to take place in Burgas, with flights to be conducted over the sea for safety reasons.

Ivandjikov noted that test flights with flying cars are currently being carried out between two airports in New York, while in Abu Dhabi they are expected to be launched this autumn. He added:

“I want to bring them to Bulgaria, I want to bring them to Burgas. And everything you see as a project, I want us to build it together with the municipality,” Ivandjikov stated during the forum.

He also presented a broader vision for the future of transport in the Balkans:

• flying taxis in cities

• electric and hybrid small aircraft connecting settlements

• a new type of air connectivity that saves time and facilitates business across the region

• an “Uber-style” model for air transport across the Balkans

According to him, small 14–16-seat electric and diesel aircraft will become widely used in the coming years, and Bulgaria has the opportunity to be among the first countries in the region to develop such a system.

As part of the concept, BAIA also proposes the development of the abandoned Ravnetz Airport as a future base for air taxis and new aviation technologies.
Ivandjikov emphasised that Bulgaria must start developing not only its major airports, but also the smaller airfields across the country.

Support for the idea was expressed by both Manol Todorov, Deputy Mayor of Burgas, and Dobromir Gyulev, Regional Governor, who described such projects as increasingly realistic and important for the future of the region.

BAIA continues to work actively for the development of:

• the low-altitude economy

• Urban Air Mobility

• eVTOL technologies

• drone infrastructure and new transport models

• connecting aviation, technology, education and institutions

The future is no longer a distant concept. It is beginning to be built here and now.

Todor Ivandjikov, President of the Bulgarian Aviation Industry Association, Niko Kalaydzhiev, five-time world record holder, and Anton Puliyski from United Drone Society, also representing Cluster “Your Wings”, entered the classroom not simply as lecturers…
but as people who carry dreams.
And who share them with open hearts and souls.

There were moments of silence — the kind of silence in which dreams are born.
There were questions — real, deep and brave.
There was laughter, inspiration and that unforgettable energy that stays with you.
Today, we did not simply talk about aviation, drones and the future.
Today, we gave these children something far more valuable — direction.
We charged them with fuel for the years ahead, so they can fly high and never stop their flight.
We gave them the energy they needed exactly at the moment they need it most — when they are beginning to choose who they want to become.
And they… they gave us the same in return.
With pure, strong and genuine belief that everything is possible.
And if today was just one day — then tomorrow may be someone’s first flight.
